Potsdam, March 1960. The sign reads: „Our answer: joining the SED“. New members or candidates
of „the party“, as it was officially and commonly known, have put up portraits with their
names on in the centre of town. This would scarcely have been imaginable later, as membership
of the party was not popular and new members were suspected of having joined simply to further
their careers. The four dots at the beginning indicate that the text follows on from another
sentence, almost certainly referring to the aggressive West.
