"Täglich meldet die SED-Propaganda neue Namen von 'Vollgenossenschaftlichen Dörfern'. DBZ: Innerhalb von 48 Stunden wurde das Dorf Marxwalde im Kreis Seelow das Opfer der SED. 26.3.60"

Picture 43: The handwritten board reads: „Within 48 hours, all the farmers of Marxwalde who together owned 1249 hectares became members of the LPG (= agricultural cooperative). In so doing, they decided to contribute to the victory of socialism.“ This notice announcing the collectivization of agriculture in the village is typical for this time (Spring 1960). The reference to 48 hours indicates the hectic and forced pace of the collectivization.
The village had been renamed „Marxwalde“ in honour of Karl Marx in 1949. In 1991, its name was changed back to Neuhardenberg.
