"Aufmarsch der 'Volkspolizei'. Berlin - Adlershof, 13.3.60"

Picture 26: This picture was taken on 13th March 1960. The men in uniform belong to the police force, despite their army-like appearance. There were two occasions for this demonstration: it was the 40th anniversary of the so-called Kapp Putsch of 1920, when right-wing politicians and officers tried to overthrow the Weimar Republic; the parade commemorated the victims of the coup d'etat. It also commemorated victims of SA violence in Köpenick in 1933. At the end of the procession, a new bridge across the river Spree nearby was officially opened.
